Parenting and BC Law
Parenting after separation
The BC Family Law Act requires parenting decisions after separation to consider only the child’s best interest. The Family Law Act promotes a co-operative approach to parenting arrangements. The BC family law terms “custody” and “access” are no longer used. The Family Law Act uses “guardianship,” “parental responsibilities,” “parenting time” and “contact.” Guardianship describes responsibilities for children’s care and upbringing. The federal Divorce Act governs divorce and was set to change in 2021.
