Five steps of grief

Divorce grief typically has five steps. Grieving takes about two years on average.

  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Bargaining
  • Depression
  • Acceptance

Counseling and treatment

Individual and couples counseling is recommended during the bargaining step. Mental health treatment should be considered for extended depression with certain symptoms.
